A Prayer for 
Those Who Hunger
Offered by Buddy Powell in morning worship,
Sunday, February 15, 2004



0 God, we human beings hunger in many different ways and for many different things. 

We cannot live physically without the food that so many in this world lack and for which so many in this world struggle. Lord, we pray for those who, right now, are feeling the pain of physical hunger and the anguish of malnutrition. 

We also know that the hearts of so many are starving for love, for acceptance by others and for acceptance by you. We pray for those who are feeling emotionally empty and who long to be valued. Please fill them with the assurance of your undying compassion and your everlasting love for us, your children.

Finally, we remember those who are experiencin g s piritual hunger. Many suffer from lack of righteousness, others are famished by the absence of peace, and still others are desperately hungry for some small morsel of encouragement. Lord, fill them and fill us with your holy manna, the bread which can renew our spirits and lift our hearts and energize us for the task of feeding our hungry brothers and sisters on your behalf. 

Nourish our bodies, our hearts, and our souls and always, when we eat a meal or care for another or seek justice, remind us that you are the ultimate source of all life and love and peace. For that realization, we give you thanks. And we pray in the blessed name of the one who is your sustaining word of hope to us, Jesus the Christ.
