Boyd Gilbert Miller,
83, of Waco died May 2, 2009, at
Providence Health Care Center.
Graveside services were held 2 p.m.
Monday, May 4, at Maple Grove
Cemetery in Minden, Texas, with the
Rev. Jim Rhodes and the Rev. Paul
Thomasson officiating. A memorial
service will be 2 p.m. Friday, May
8, at Lake Shore Baptist Church in
Waco, with the Rev. Dorisanne
Cooper, the Rev. Sharlande Sledge
and the Rev. Charles Wyatt
officiating. Boyd was born July 27,
1925, in Denison, Texas, to parents,
Ira Herbert Miller and Mary Louise
Lively Miller. After graduating from
Brownfield High School in 1943, he
served honorably in the U. S. Army
162nd Infantry Regiment in campaigns
in the Philippine Islands and the
occupation of Japan. He married
JoAnn Orr on Nov. 28, 1958. He
reluctantly retired in 1996, after
many years as a successful business
owner in Abilene, Brownwood, and
Longview. He was a loving and
devoted husband, father and
grandfather. He was a member of Lake
Shore Baptist Church in Waco. Boyd
was preceded in death by his
parents; five brothers; and two
sisters. He is survived by his wife;
one son, Gary and wife, Beth of
Waco; two daughters, Caryl
Miller-Compton and husband Kevin and
Karyn Miller, all of Waco; one
brother, Stanley Miller and wife,
Zelma of Brownfield, Texas; one
sister-in-law, Dovie Miller of
Tahoka, Texas; grandchildren, Molly
Hepp, Thomas Miller, David Miller,
Andrew Reynolds, Matthew Reynolds,
Kyle Compton, Ross Compton and Koby
Compton; and 12 nieces and nephews.
The family is very appreciative of
the loving care Boyd received from
Wesley Woods, Providence Hospital
and Providence Hospice. For those
