Elmer
L. Fisher passed away on July
8, 2006. A memorial service will be
at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at
Fellowship United Methodist Church
in Trophy Club, Sharlande Sledge
officiating. Elmer was born on April
11, 1929, in Johnson City, Tenn. He
attended the Happy Valley schools in
Johnson City, Tenn., and Mars Hill
College in Mars Hill, N.C. He earned
a B.A. degree from Baylor University
and attended Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Fort Worth
where he earned a M. Div. He then
spent four years studying Classics
at the University of Texas at
Austin. He began teaching Classics
at Baylor in 1959, where he taught
for 35 years. He was also a licensed
and ordained Baptist minister. Elmer
was passionate about Baylor Bears
football. He never missed a game in
35 years. He always stayed until the
game was finished (win or lose),
then he would sing "That Good Old
Baylor Line". His avocation was
gardening and landscaping. He loved
traveling, hiking the Smoky
Mountains and walking the beaches of
Hawaii. Elmer and his wife, Jo,
lived in Waco for 40 years, where
they raised their two daughters. He
was diagnosed with Parkinson's
disease in 1997, and moved to Trophy
Club several years later to be near
family. One of his great joys was
spending time with his five
grandchildren. He is survived by his
wife of 56 years, Jo Fisher; his
daughters, and their husbands, Shara
and John T. Kennedy of Albuquerque,
N.M., and Lexis and Mack Sanders of
Trophy Club; five grandchildren,
John Fisher Kennedy, Leeanne
Kennedy, Nathan Kennedy, Hayden
Sanders, and Shelby Sanders; his
brother, Bill Fisher of Johnson
City, Tenn.; his half brothers and
sisters, Stevie Fisher of Johnson
City, Tenn., Carroll Fisher and his
wife, Eileen, of Auburn, Wash.,
Frances Fisher of Johnson City,
Texas, Belle Letterman of Limestone,
Tenn., and Betty Taylor and her
husband, Joe of Goldyear, Ariz. He
donated his body to the University
of North Texas Health Science Center
at Fort Worth for the advancement of
medical education and research.
Memorials may be made to the Baylor
University Scholarship Fund or the
Baylor Bear Foundation. April 11,

members at Lake Shore from 1960
until 1999 when they moved to Trophy
Club. Their daughters, Shara
and Lexis, grew up here.
