Workforce Solutions
Awards $4,000 to
Lake Shore Baptist Children’s Center
Waco,
TX
– June 16, 2010. Lake
Shore Baptist Church Children’s
Center Interim Director Jennifer
Sulak knows the value of quality
early care and education. As a
Texas Rising Star (TRS) Certified
Child Care Provider, Lake Shore
Baptist has proven that time and
time again; and, to recognize their
efforts, Workforce Solutions for the
Heart of Texas Child Care Services
honored
Lake Shore Baptist Children’s
Center with $4,000 for the
purchase
of educational
materials
and
equipment.
“We know that quality child care
doesn’t happen by accident,” said
Workforce Solutions Child Care
Provider Services Manager, Tamera
Carter, “and we are grateful for
Lake Shore Baptist’s service to the
children and families in this
community.”
According to the Bush School of
Business, for every $1 invested in
quality early care and education
(ages 0-5) there is a return on
investment of $3.50. The impact is
seen mainly through kindergarten
readiness, higher grade level
advancement rates, lower juvenile
justice costs, and higher graduation
rates.
With the assistance of $100,000 in American Reinvestment
and Recovery Act quality child care
funding, Workforce Solutions was
able to support the Texas Rising
Star Maintenance and Expansion
Program. A Texas Rising Star
Provider is a child care provider
that serves children whose parents
qualify for a child care subsidy and
that exceeds the State’s minimum
Child Care Licensing Standards.
The program involves participation
in comprehensive quality improvement
components including: professional
development opportunities for
directors and teachers, mentoring,
and the purchase of materials and
equipment, all of which are based on
needs identified through classroom
evaluations. In the Heart of Texas
region, 25 licensed centers and
homes are participating in this
project.
“We are thrilled with this
opportunity to honor the important
work that child care providers do
every day,” said Julie Talbert with
Workforce Solutions. “We understand,
and we hope to help others
understand, that investing in early
care reaps many benefits to our
communities and to our future
workforce.”
