After long preparation and hard work, our good
friend, Christiana Owusu, has
accomplished her dream. The Shalom
Children's Center opened for its
first school year on September 7,
2004. Operated by Christiana and her
five teachers (and with help from
Christiana's husband Robert, who
earned his doctorate at Baylor
University), the Center will provide
safety, nurture, education, and
nutrition for 148 rural children.
Lake Shore members have supported
the development of the children's
center with donations of money,
supplies, clothing, toys,
medications, and tools -- and with
our prayers.

The children's center is
located in the Twifo-Hemang
village in southwestern Ghana. |

And the girls (mainly) with
Christiana.

The Center was formally opened by
Nana Amoah Srasraku III, the
Omanhene (King) of Twifo-Hemang;
assisted by Mr. Martin Antwi from
the office of the District Director
of Education; Mrs. Christiana Owusu,
the Founder and Proprietress; and by
Rev. Dr. Robert Y. Owusu.

playground equipment.
Tom Charlton, do you recognize the
posthole digger?

Trying out the swing set...

and the slide...

and the merry-go-round...

and looking over the new toys.

New classroom furniture, made in
Ghana.
Congratulations, Best Wishes, and
Continuing Prayers
to Christiana, Robert, and your
students and teachers
from your friends at Lake Shore
Baptist Church!
