Who
are we?
Lake
Shore
Baptist
Church
is a community of Christians
attempting to discover,
articulate, and embody the
meaning of the Gospel in the
world today.
We invite all to
participate in worship, study
and fellowship, which we hope
will result in life-giving faith
and service for the sake of the
world.
Lake
Shore
participants are on a journey of
faith.
We are people endlessly
becoming.
We seek to be all God
wants us to be in this time and
place.
We believe that each
church must discover its own
ministry; we especially embrace
those who have become hardened
by, immune to, or disillusioned
with traditional forms of
Christian community.

A
Brief History
In 1957 land was purchased by Columbus
Avenue Baptist Church (in downtown Waco) for the site of a new mission church
in the rapidly developing northwest
part of
Waco
.
The mission thrived, meeting in
school gymnasiums for the first
several years.
In 1959, the congregation voted
to organize as a separate church and
in 1960 contracted to build the
present church structure.
Through a series of creative
and innovative pastors, Lake
Shore
built a solid foundation and came to
have its own personality and
direction, breaking away from
traditional moorings.
The congregation has become
known in the community as the
“alternative church,” attractive
to Baptists and non-Baptists alike,
and has developed a reputation for
community involvement and ecumenical
awareness.
Membership,
Location, and Organization
We
accept into membership those who
affirm that Christ is Lord, desire to
identify themselves with this unique
congregation of faith, and have
presented themselves to the
congregation and received its
affirmation and support. Our
full membership policy is available
here.
We
are a medium-sized
church, located
in a quiet neighborhood
of northwest
Waco.
We have about 450 resident
members, and our average
worship attendance is about
250. Lake
Shore
is largely a committee-run
church, sharing numerous
responsibilities that create
the many ongoing ministries
and educational opportunities
available to all.
